Studies & Investigations / Assessments
Foundations below Buildings & Other Structures
Foundations below Buildings & Other Structures
As Karl Terzaghi said "Unfortunately, soils are made by nature and not by man, and the products of nature are always complex..." CEP manages & oversees investigations on the foundation soils to determine whether they are capable of supporting the proposed additional loads of buildings and other structures. Investigations include geotechnical and geophysical methods such as cross hole seismic tests, electric resistivity imaging, ground penetrating radar, etc.
Condition of Existing Buildings & Other Structures
For visual condition surveys, CEP carefully examines each structural element for even the most minute sign of distress in order to make an assessment of the structural integrity of the structure. This enables CEP to make appropriate recommendations for repair or rehabilitation, provided the structural damage is not extensive and requires the complete demolition of the entire structure. We also survey damage due to abnormal ground settlements and heaves, hurricanes, earthquakes, and fires.
Fire Engineering
Fire Engineering is the application of science and engineering principles, rules, and expert judgement, based on an understanding of the phenomena and the effects of fire, and of the reaction and behaviour of people to fire, to protect people, property and the environment from the harmful & destructive effects of fire. CEP can check designs, construction, arrangement & use of buildings, materials, and structures to ensure the mitigation of potential fire damage.
